Multi-City OOH Campaigns Across Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor and Bandung, with a Distinct Role for Each City

The usual mistake in a multi-city OOH campaign around Jakarta is copying the Jakarta plan into Bekasi, Bogor and Bandung without changes: same artwork, same flight dates, same slot length. The result is a 4 x 8 m screen in Bandung playing a file built for the 9 x 18 m screen at Slipi, and a Jakarta-only promotion running in a city where the product is not on shelves yet. A plan that holds up gives each city its own job, keeps one core message, and runs every city through a single schedule and reporting format.

When a multi-city OOH campaign makes sense

Start with distribution, not footfall. The useful question is where people can buy or use the product next week. Delivery and ride-hailing apps, retail chains, FMCG products already stocked in convenience stores, and car brands with dealers in all four cities are natural fits. If distribution is still Jakarta-only, concentrate the budget there, buy more frequency, and add cities once stock and stores are ready.

The second valid reason is how people move. Many people who work in Jakarta live in Bekasi, Bogor, Depok and Tangerang. They pass roadside screens near home in the morning and office-district screens at midday. A campaign present at both ends of that commute reaches the same person in two different contexts, which is where a multi-city plan earns its cost.

Giving each city a role

Rather than splitting the budget evenly, decide what each city is for. The roles below use inventory from the 8infiniooh media list.

Jakarta carries the launch

Jakarta holds the main message and the launch moment. LED Mandarin at Bundaran HI is Indonesia's first robotic LED, with three faces (27 x 9 m, 8 x 16 m and 27 x 9 m) overlooking a roundabout where several traffic flows meet, which makes it a strong day-one placement. For west-bound commuters heading home, LED Mega Anggrek A faces toward Tangerang, while side B and LED Slipi (9 x 18 m) face toward Semanggi and catch the morning flow into the centre.

Bekasi and Bogor work close to home

In the commuter cities, OOH repeats the message people already saw in Jakarta, this time near where they shop and eat in the evening. The LED JPO Metropolitan Mall Bekasi screen (6 x 12 m) sits on Jl. Arteri Baru KH. Noer Ali, a road Bekasi residents use before and after office hours. In Bogor, LED Warung Jambu and LED Masjid Raya each have an A and a B side, so you can choose the face that meets inbound or outbound traffic depending on the hours you want. Side-by-side details are on the Bogor digital billboard page.

Transjabodetabek buses tie both ends of the commute together. A wrapped bus runs between the satellite cities and Jakarta, so one design carries the message across several areas without booking a new site in each. Routes and wrap formats are covered in our article on Transjabodetabek bus advertising.

Bandung is its own market

Bandung is not a Jakarta suburb. It has its own malls, campuses and weekend tourist traffic, so its message and schedule deserve separate planning. Screens there are 4 x 8 m with clear facings: LED Buah Batu A faces toward the Padalarang toll road, Buah Batu B toward the city centre, LED Riau A toward Cicaheum, and LED Riau B and LED Sunda toward BIP and central Bandung. Viewing distances are shorter than at Jakarta's large screens, which leaves room for a little more text, such as a store address or a local offer period.

One message, artwork adapted per screen

Build one master key visual with the logo, the product and a single headline, then derive city versions from it. What can change: local details (store address, service area, offer dates), the call to action, and occasionally a local greeting if it fits the brand's voice. What should stay fixed: colours, logo placement and the headline, so a Bekasi resident who works in Jakarta recognises the same campaign in both places.

Before design starts, put together a one-page adaptation brief covering:

  • every site per city with its size and pixel resolution,
  • the local details that differ by city,
  • a promo code or QR code for each city,
  • which version runs by day and which by night, if the message changes.

Every screen has its own resolution and aspect ratio. Request pixel specs for each site before the designer opens a file, not after the artwork is finished. A file stretched onto a screen with a different ratio crops the headline or squashes the logo, and the problem usually surfaces only when the first proof-of-play photo arrives.

Simultaneous or staggered rollout

A simultaneous launch suits products available everywhere on the same day, such as a new app feature. All screens start together, with Jakarta getting the heaviest frequency in week one.

Flight lengths do not need to match. Jakarta can run longest because it carries the main message, Bekasi and Bogor can follow in-store promotion periods, and Bandung can be weighted toward Friday to Sunday, when out-of-town traffic comes in.

A staggered rollout fits store openings, phased distribution or budgets that need testing first. Start in one city, read two to three weeks of results, then move budget to the next city with improved artwork. If you are aiming for December, submit the plan now: year-end slot demand tends to rise and the choice of screen faces can narrow.

Connecting on-ground activity and online channels

An activation does not have to happen in every city. One strong activation in Jakarta or Bandung can supply photos and video for social media across all markets, while LED screens elsewhere show cut-downs of that content. Creative branding formats such as themed bus shelters can give the campaign a physical anchor; the Venom campaign from Sony Picture Indonesia, for example, used on-ground creative branding.

To tell the cities apart in your results, use a different promo or QR code per city and per medium. Paid social can be geo-targeted to the area around a live screen, so someone who drove past LED Buah Batu sees the same message on their phone that evening.

Campaigns that ran in more than one city

Several 8infiniooh clients have used sites in more than one city. ZAP ran on LED JPO Metropolitan Mall Bekasi and LED Buah Batu A in Bandung. Mitsubishi ran Mitsubishi XFORCE on LED JPO Metropolitan Mall Bekasi, and other Mitsubishi campaigns appeared on LED Mega Anggrek B and LED Jamsostek in Jakarta. The pattern is the same in both cases: one brand, several cities, with site choice following where its customers are.

Cost drivers and permits by city

The cost of a multi-city campaign depends on the number of sites and faces, flight length, slot length and frequency, how many artwork versions need producing, and production and installation for buses or activations. Advertising tax and permits are set by each local government, so amounts and processes differ between Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor and Bandung. Our team handles this with site owners; raise it early so the flight is not held up.

For a quote, send the list of cities, an estimated start date and the campaign length. We will come back with a few site combinations and a cost breakdown for each.

Reporting you can compare across cities

Ask for one reporting format for every city: proof-of-play photos or video per site, actual airing schedule, and notes on any issues. With a consistent format, you can put Bekasi's promo code results next to Bandung's without reconciling two different reports. Setting baselines and control markets is covered in our guide to measuring OOH campaign ROI.

What to send us

Prepare three things: the cities where the product is already available, the launch date or promotion window, and the master artwork you already have. Send them via WhatsApp at +6282288108888 or by email, and the 8infiniooh team will propose a role for each city, the screen faces to book and an airing schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a multi-city OOH campaign have to launch in every city on the same day?

No. A simultaneous launch suits products available everywhere at once. For store openings or phased distribution, a staggered rollout city by city works better and leaves time to fix the artwork.

Can one artwork file run on every screen?

It should not. Screens in Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor and Bandung differ in size and resolution, for example 9 x 18 m at Slipi versus 4 x 8 m at Buah Batu. Get pixel specs per site and derive each version from one master key visual.

Are advertising tax and permits the same in each city?

No. Each local government sets its own advertising tax and permit process. The 8infiniooh team handles this with site owners, so raise it early to keep the flight on schedule.

How do I compare results between cities?

Use a different promo or QR code per city and per medium, and ask for proof-of-play reports in the same format for every site so the numbers sit side by side.
