On Sunday, 23 June 2024, the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia was held at Fuji Speedway in Oyama, Shizuoka, Japan. The prestigious race drew attention from many quarters, including 8infini Advertising, which had the opportunity to sponsor the Absolute Corse team. The team had just acquired a Ferrari 296 GT3, driven by the talented André Canard and Finn Gehrsitz.
Hong Kong-based Absolute Corse is a branch of Absolute Racing. The team has competed in the series many times and announced its plan to run the Ferrari 296 last November. Alongside the Ferrari, the team will continue to run a Porsche and an Audi in 2024, with drivers confirmed for both.
German driver Finn Gehrsitz is only 19 but already has solid sports car experience. He moved from karting to GT4 in 2020, then spent the next two seasons racing in LMP3. His results culminated in a call-up to the FIA WEC Rookie Test in 2022.
Fanatec GT Asia and the Ferrari 296 GT3 are both new challenges for the team, but Gehrsitz is no stranger to GT3 racing. He took part in the Asian Le Mans Series in 2022 and won a race in the ADAC GT Masters last season.
"While André and Finn are both new to racing a Ferrari, they will be able to speed up their learning with the team's help," said Absolute Racing boss Ingo Matter. "We proved last year with Andrew [Haryanto] and James [Yu] that a Silver/Am pairing can win overall," Matter continued, "so I see no reason why we can't target good overall results while chasing as many class wins as possible."
Gehrsitz added: "While everything in Asia is fairly new to me, I'm fully ready to give my best. I hope to contribute positively to the team and look forward to showing a strong performance. I'm also very happy to announce my new partner, 8infini Advertising, who made all of this possible. Let's have a successful season and get off to a strong start at Sepang."
Although they have not yet brought home a championship trophy, Absolute Corse drivers André Canard and Finn Gehrsitz will aim to improve on the Silver-Am podium they took in the Ferrari 296 GT3 at the last race in Thailand.
